Dr William Turner Dean of Wells

A plaque on the wall said that behind this door had been the herb garden of William Turner Tudor Dean of Wells. In September 2003 a team of volunteers began work on this neglected garden hacking through undergrowth, ferociously attacking ground elder, reconfiguring paths to a Tudor layout. What has been achieved is a garden which Turner would have recognized. With great care his plants have been tracked down so that all the plants in the garden are mentioned in Turner’s ‘A New Herball’. For more details, please use the links on the left.
